In 2007 Hugo Chavez threatened TV Channel RCTV with the closure of its operations. RCTV was by then the oldest TV channel in Latin America. It also had a programming that became an integral part of Venezuelan culture and was the continental leader in soap opera exports. The Board of Directors of the company summons us to mobilize public opinion in order to stop the closure. Our proposal was to increase to the extreme the political cost of the closure, to the point that Chávez was defeated in a referendum that would remove him from power in 2012. The campaign against closure is now recognized as the most complex that would have been held in Venezuela . It included national and international mobilizations and the participation of all spheres of national life.
